KOSHINO HIROKO
Born in Kishiwada City, Osaka Prefecture. Keen on art and traditional arts since childhood.
Joined the art club while in Kishiwada High School and studied painting.
Moved to Tokyo and studied under the master fashion illustrator Masao Hara
while attending Bunka Fashion College.
Not only has she been working actively as a leading fashion designer,
she has also been committed herself in ink paintings, calligraphy, and acrylic paintings.
In recent years, Koshino has been exploring various media including fabrics to challenge
new methods and to widen ways of expression as an artist.
  • In 1994,
    held an exhibition titled “Hiroko Koshino Exhibition” (at the Kintetsu Art-Kan in Osaka),
    displaying calligraphy and ink paintings.
  • In 2002,
    held an exhibition titled “Honoka to Hirameki (Dimness and Flashes of Light)” in Harajuku, Tokyo,
    and at Izutsuya department store in Kokura, Kyushu.
  • In 2003,
    held an exhibition titled “Works of Hiroko Koshino” (at Kintetsu Art Hall, Osaka) displaying ink paintings.
  • In 2004,
    held an exhibition titled “Hiroko Koshino Exhibition” (at Ashiya City Museum of Art & History) displaying ink paintings, calligraphy, and paintings.
  • In 2005,
    held an exhibition titled “Hiroko Koshino Exhibition – Focusing on Artworks” (at ARTCOURT Gallery, Osaka) displaying calligraphy, ink images, and paintings.
  • In 2006,
    produced an exhibition titled “Layers Exhibition” in collaboration with obi sash wholesaler Kondaya Genbey and architect Kengo Kuma at the Daimaru Museum inTokyo. Designed kimono sashes by applying paint directly onto fabric woven using silk from Koishimaru silkworms.

    Held an exhibition titled “Lotus – Hiroko Koshino Exhibition” at the Civic Art Gallery of the Mimei Ogawa Literature Museum in Joetsu City, displaying paintings with a lotus motif.

    Also held an exhibition titled “Hiroko Koshino Exhibition” at Yamakataya in Kagoshima and showed paintings and calligraphy.

  • In 2008,
    held an exhibition titled “The World Drawn by Hiroko Koshino” (at Fudenosato Kobo, Hiroshima) displaying paintings, ink images, ink paintings, and calligraphy.
  • In 2010,
    held an exhibition of calligraphy and paintings at Cité de l’architecture & du patrimoine in Paris.
  • In 2011,
    held an exhibition titled “Hiroko Koshino Creations 2011” at Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris displaying paintings.
  • In 2012,
    held a solo exhibition at the Galerie Hors-Champs gallery in the Marais district of Paris.
  • In 2013,
    renovated her private home in Ahiya, Hyogo, and opened as the KH Gallery Ashiya.
  • In 2014,
    held a solo exhibition at the Galerie Nicolas Deman in Saint-Germain-des-Prés district of Paris.

    Held a Koshino’s painting installation were put on exhibition at Biwako Biennale 2014, the thema of UTAKATA.

  • In 2015,
    presented folding fans and Japanese fans with ink drawings in the exhibition titled “Eight Designers Creating Tomorrow’s Rinpa School—Folding Fans and Japanese Fans” held by Kyoto Sensu and Uchiwa Commerce and Industry Cooperative Association in Yasaka Shrine Tokiwa Shinden, Kyoto.

    A collaboration between flower artist Atsunobu Katagiri and Hiroko Koshino produced a work which was exhibited under the theme of “Symbiosis stage of Man and nature” at the Awaji hanahaku 2015 event.

    And held an exhibition titled “Hiroko Koshino exbition” (at AWAJI HANAHAKU 2015 HANA-MIDORI FAIR, Hyogo) displaying paintings.

    Also held a solo art exhibition at the Daimaru Shinsaibashi Department Store in Osaka.

    Presented her artworks and gave a lecture as a special guest in “ART & DESIGN FORUM + EXHIBITION” at Osaka University of Arts Abeno Harukas Sky Campus, Osaka.

    Held an exhibition titled “Hiroko Koshino −Traces of the Brush−” at Daimaru Department Store Shinsaibashi Special Gallery.

    Held “NUIT BLANCHE KYOTO 2015 Hiroko Koshino + circle side” at NUIT BLANCHE KYOTO 2015 at Institut Francais Kansai and presented collaboration works with the artist group Circle Side.

    Participated in “Beaujolais Nouveau 2015 Label Design Exhibition” held by DAS (DAS Designers Association) and JAGDA (Japan Graphic Designers Association) and presented her wine label designs.

  • In 2016,
    held an exhibition titled “Hiroko Koshino: Black & White-Sumi Ink and Blank Space” at the AIR Gallery in Osaka.

    Participated in “Beaujolais Nouveau 2016 Label Design Exhibition” held by DAS and JAGDA and presented her wine label designs.
    Participated in the exhibition titled “World of 12cm” held by DAS and Gallery Chayamachi and presented her Giclée works.

  • In 2017,
    held an exhibition titled “Hiroko Koshino: World of Art” at Daimaru Department Store Shinsaibashi Art Gallery in Osaka.

    Held an exhibition titled “Hiroko Koshino –COLORS−” at Shinjuku Isetan Store Art Gallery.

    Held an exhibition titled “Hiroko Koshino: World of Giclée” at Air Gallery in Osaka.

    Participated in “Beaujolais Nouveau 2017 Label Design Exhibition” held by DAS and JAGDA and presented her wine label designs.

    Participated in the exhibition titled “World of 12cm” held by DAS and Gallery Chayamachi and presented her acrylic paintings.

    Published HIROKO KOSHINO -it is as it is- to commemorate the 60th year of her career as a designer.

  • In 2018,
    appointed as the honorary director of KOBE FASHION MUSEUM.
